The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
(WEEE) Directive requires that used electrical and electronic products must be
disposed of separately from normal household waste in order to promote reuse,
recycling, other forms of recovery and to reduce the quantity of waste to be
eliminated with a view to reducing landfills. This includes Ultra Violet (UV
) lamps.
The
UV lamps contain a small amount of mercury. Although this is less than 0.1% it
is still classed as a hazardous substance and therefore all UV lamps
need to be returned to a recycling centre to be disposed of to meet the WEEE
directive.
UV
Lamps must not be destroyed by any other means.
Therefore : When you need to dispose of any UV lamps or other
such products, please follow the agreement made between you and your supplier
or your retailer.
